Fabric and Construction:- The Montana is made from 3/4ozs. Rip-Stop Nylon
fabric, Silicon coated both sides, ensuring a high degree of air-proofing. Dacron
reinforced Trailing Edge and Leading Edge Vent openings make for added durability
and resist stretch in these areas. The Bridle is formed from Kevlar/Dyneema (Spectra)
and has sewn loops to reduce snagging. Robust bridle attachment tabs complete
the high level of attention to detail on this kite.
Flying Lines:- Each kite comes complete with pre-sleeved Spectra fiber flying lines and De-Power Control Bar system. Line length is approximately 72ft. for 5.0 & 7.0 and 85ft for 9.5 & 12.5. As with all sports equipment exposed to natural elements such as wind, sea water, dust, sand and sunlight, life expectancy varies. With heavy use in these conditions, Montana kites can be expected to remain operationally effective for a minimum of 2 years. Of course, with moderate use and care, this time period can be lengthened considerably. To optimize performance, it is suggested that equipment be updated and/or replaced routinely. |
Each Montana kite comes in a sturdy back-pack with Instructions, De-Power Control Bar, Flying Lines and Instruction Guide. The Carbon Fiber De-Power Bar enables control over angle of attack, which effectively adjusts power output. It is equiped with a leash-less safety system and free rotation feature to prevent line twisting. This kite must be flown with a harness to utilize the de-power feature of the control bar. The Montana is a free-style traction kite designed for use with a control bar. It is a great traction kite for Kite LandBoarding and Snow Kiting but we would not recommend using a control bar for Kite Buggying. |
Openings are reinforced with Dacron as you would expect from a design built to paraglider
standards. Bridling is Kevlar/Dyneema with sewn loops which attach to robust tabs on the
kite. Inner Riser Profiles are reinforced to reduce stretch. Trailing Edge "Dirt Outs" are
standard to make removing sand and other debris from inside the kite easy.Though the smaller sizes are intended for strong winds and the larger sizes for light wind conditions, the operating range of each Montana will largely depend on the flyers skill level with this type of kite. The performance level of the Montana 2 is suited to intermediate and experienced pilots and those with flight experience of less sophisticated quad line ram-air kites. We would suggest entry level traction fliers would benefit from getting comfortable with a medium aspect ratio kite such as the Beamer or Bullet before progressing to the Montana. Prior experience flying with a control bar would be helpful though not necessary. |

Getting started:- Whether flying for fun or Traction Kiting, the Montana 2 is sure to
perform well. The size range from 5.0 to 12.5 is sure to cover all conditions for the
experienced pilot. No matter what type of kite you use for Kite Traction, there are a number of things to remember when selecting the best size to start with. The Montana to use will depend on the Surface; (Skis on snow or ice, Kite LandBoard on hard sand, grass or hard ground, or Kite Board on water), the Wind Speed; flyer Skill and Experience and flyer Weight. Whether the flyer is a novice or has a lot of Traction Kiting experience, the best choice is the smallest kite that will produce enough power to move. It is essential not to be overpowered, not just because it's obviously safer, but upwind travel will be easier and less power is easier to manage. |
Once you are confident that you can control the kite, then progress to Skis, Kite
SnowBoard or Kite Landboard.![]() These kites produce considerable pull and are not suitable for inexperienced flyers under age 16. Always learn to control the kites before attempting kite traction activities. Sensible saftey precautions should be followed when flying these kites and protective clothing, especially sturdy shoes and a helmet should always be worn when using them for traction. Read instructions and safety warnings in with every kite. |
